Jan Kocman
Costume and scenery-designer

Studied at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava (Vysoká škola múzických umení, www.vsmu.sk) (Scenery for Puppet Opera), obtaining after this a doctorate on Costume within Scenery under Prof. Corba.
At present he teaches in that institution.

The list of his activities is long and varied. Besides teaching Jan Kocman works on costume and stage design for theatres in Slovakia and elsewhere (London, Zürich, Prag, Düsseldorf etc.). He has also been involved in several prize-winning film-productions and works with Slovakian Television.

For the last 10 years he has worked with Theater Kontra-Punkt and the world-famous pantomime Milan Sladek.

Jan Kocman is a member of the creative trio STROMY (Trees) which won the Discovery of the Season 2000 Prize from Slovakian journalists and theatre-critics.

Besides his work as costume-maker he also designs Posters for theatres. Throughout his work you can feel the permanent influence of Puppet-theatre together with the principles of drama and dance. Varied cultural backgrounds mix to give simple, highly professional, inimitable aesthetic solutions.
