Malcolm Maclean (b. 1949)
A Glasgow Gael and graduate of Gray's School of Art and the Open University. Previous incarnations include artist, art therapist, cartoonist, book designer, itinerant teacher and fisherman. Based in the Western Isles since 1975.
Helped found Peacock Printmakers (Aberdeen 1973), An Lanntair art gallery (Stornoway 1985), Feisean nan Gaidheal (Skye 1992), the Tosg theatre company (Skye 1995), the award winning, Ceolas summer school (South Uist 1997). Curator/editor of the "As an Fhearann" touring exhibition and book (1986) co-curator / co-editor of the award winning, touring exhibition and book "Calanais" and curator/editor of the international touring exhibition and book "An Leabhar Mor"/The Great Book of Gaelic which is currently exhibited at the City Arts Centre, Edinburgh, between 17 October 2003 and 24 January 2004.
Director of Proiseact nan Ealan (PNE) the Gaelic Arts Agency since 1987. PNE is the national development agency for the Gaelic arts in Scotland. The agency is based in the Western Isles and designs, develops and pilots new arts and media initiatives throughout Scotland.
